Welcome to Llanspyddid

In the Brecon Beacons

Churchyard Restoration

Right - A tremendous amount of work has been done on this side of the churchyard. All the old brambles, trees and rubble removed, ground levelled and topped up with top soil and finally seeded with grass seed. This has allowed a lot more light into the churchyard and village.

Churchyard Restoration

Right - These well overgrown trees are due to be heavily pruned and some removed totally. Again this is to allow more light in and reveal the nice stone walls.

Churchyard Restoration

Right - This nice stoned wall enclosure and tomb, with fine iron railings is now totally overgrown. This will require quite a bit of work and effort to get back to its former glory.
October 2006, Ivy and brambles now removed, restoration of the iron work will start in the spring.

Right - As you can see this stone monument had almost been completely lost to the ivy, just a few more years and it would have looked like a tree.

Churchyard Restoration

Right - This is one of the ways we got rid of some of the tree cuttings and brambles. Roll your mouse over the image to see the other way.

Churchyard Restoration

Right - This will be one of our next projects. These gravestones are lost in the undergrowth, there are many more behind what you can not see in the picture.
November 2006 these gravestones are now able to see daylight.

Right - This area of the graveyard has been worked on throughout November 2006, with ivy and brambles being removed from both the grave and tombstones. The Yew trees have all had the ivy removed from the lower areas to allow them to see daylight again.
Also the drystone wall is now visible behind the Yew trees.

Right - These two crosses were kindly repaired by Doug Prosser (Funeral Director) who also repaired another gravestone free of charge which was damaged when a bough from one of the yew trees broke off in the high winds before Christmas. Doug also righted a gravestone of a previous Llanspyddid vicar which was beginning to lean quite heavily.
